The 3rd International Scientific Conference on “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Education” – Shaping Active Citizens for Sustainability, Innovation, Equality, and Justice in a Changing World, focuses on Active Citizenship and Global Citizenship Education and at the same time emphasizes issues related to the introduction, implementation, assessment and promotion of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in Education.

 

The general framework of the thematic areas is:

  1. Education for Sustainable Development – From Theory to Practice: The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an educational tool. Holistic approach and cross-curricular integration of the SDGs – Linking different subjects (mathematics, language, science, arts) with sustainable development. Application of experiential and collaborative learning methods. Methodologies and indicators for assessing the impact of educational practices on sustainable development. Examples, approaches and good practices in schools, in support structures and university institutions.
  2. Innovation in Education and the Sustainable Development Goals: Innovative pedagogical practices to support the SDGs. Creation and management of educational materials with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Innovative student projects aimed at social change. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Distance Learning with a focus on sustainability. Use of Virtual Reality (VR) and games to raise awareness about the SDGs. Collaborative and inquiry-based learning. Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) and sustainable development.
  3. Active Global Citizens for Sustainability, the role of Education: Connecting Citizenship with the Sustainable Development Goals. Cross-curricular and interdisciplinary teaching strategies for the development of critical thinking and civic participation. The role of education in shaping active citizens with values of equality, democracy, peace and solidarity. Pedagogies of liberation and social action – participatory learning and democratic education. Digital citizenship and responsible use of media. Cultivation of skills of analysis and dialogue in students.
  4. Climate Crisis, the Education Response: The role of education in climate change adaptation and mitigation. Educational programs on climate change. Zero carbon footprint schools – Green initiatives in the educational community.
  5. Culture, Art and Sustainable Development – Creative Learning for a Better World: Art as a tool for raising awareness for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Cultural heritage and sustainability. Theatre education, music and visual arts for social change. Artistic actions for the cultivation of environmental awareness.
  6. Lifelong Learning and Adult Education – Designing for a Just World: Continuing professional development for teachers on sustainability issues. Strategies to strengthen teachers’ skills and values for the successful integration of the 17 SDGs in schools. Creation of resources and tools to support teachers. Strategies and examples to increase citizens’ awareness of the SDGs. Partnerships of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with schools and local communities. Citizen science.

Gender Equality and Inclusion – Education against Discrimination: Cross-cutting and interdisciplinary approaches with an emphasis on ensuring equality and justice for the achievement of the SDGs through education. Empowerment of vulnerable groups. Education for human rights and equality. The role of education in eliminating social stereotypes and prejudices. Challenges, discrimination and strengthening equality in the educational process. Cultural diversity and intercultural education.
